About Lalo Porto

Lalo Porto was born in Brazil and came to Canada in 1992 as a young teen. In 2000 he was involved in a car accident from which he had catastrophic brain damage on the cerebellum, disabling him from all basic motor functions. He attended regular physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology sessions to re-learn how to utilize his body, and get back into a “normal” lifestyle. After a year of hard work and enormous progress, his therapists informed him that there was nothing else they could do for him.

In 2002 his brother introduced him to the Alexander Technique.
During his private lessons Lalo found that it presented him with the “fine tuning” he was searching for in his healing journey and that it would be even more beneficial for him to join the three-year intensive teacher-training program at the Toronto School of the Alexander Technique. After one year of lessons Lalo began his training.

During training Lalo became aware that this was a lot more than his rehabilitation. It was indeed a way to synchronize the whole organism in such a way that he became more proficient with his daily activities. It then became clear to him what a privilege it would be to share what he was learning by teaching it to others.

Aside from the daily work at school, Lalo avidly worked to apply the Technique into his life, including his interest in music/percussion and cycling, and now he is able to teach students better performance and cycling techniques.

Lalo graduated as a certified teacher in June 2006 under the auspices of the Canadian Society of Teacher of the Alexander Technique (CANSTAT). He has recently moved his practice to a lovely home studio located at 1345 Davenport Road near Dufferin Street.
